Becoming The Light of the World
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
Light simply means, God’s presence, decree and reign in a place(on earth)
Without God, there is no light, neither can any form of light exist.
Light is a product, a creation of divine decree, of words (Gen 1v3)
I said let there be light and there was light.
And God saw that light was good and he divided(seperated) it and it brought glory unto God
Light brings meaning and glory into whatever it comes into.
Light is of the word and hence the word brought light to appear
Christ is the word and by him the light was created and made into existence(John 1)
For light is the reign and glory of Christ(Rev 11 v 15), and this is why he is called the king of light (Kristi Oba Ologo, Kristi Oba Imole)
He is the light that saves from darkness.
Light creates a path and a way to God.
Every thing that has light or produces light has glory.
John 1:10-11 explained, “He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.”
The World refers to the kingdom of darkness
Darkness refers to evil and willful blindness
darkness refers to the fact that many will outright reject the light.
You cannot be the light of the world without the light of the word.
When light comes, darkness disappears, for light is enlightenment and illumination.
Darkness is the reign of the kingdom of Satan, the existence of spiritually chaos
How can we be the light of the world ;
A.By having the light of the word.
Without enlightenment and understanding of the word, you can’t be a light in the world.
The word of God is a light unto our feet and our path(psalm 119 v 105)
B.By having the light.
One light enlightens others. Without the light of Christ, one can’t be a light in the plunging darkness of the world
John 12 v 35
35Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. 36While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light.
Believe in Christ and you shall have the light needed to shine in the world’s darkness
C. By receiving light
Without the holy spirit, one cannot be a light to the world, for the spirit of God is light
“Imole yi fun omo imole, Emi mimo, emi alaye”
We must always glorify God that his light may shine on us.
When our lives glorify God, then his light shines forth.
E. Your Good Works
By your character and good works, the light shines forth in the midst of darkness
Character is a revelation of light, for light manifests true character of Christ.
There is a great light in our character and good works for by it the world comes to light of God’s truth
F .Spread the gospel
The gospel is light. Salvation itself is light for the spiritually ignorant, and blind.
They come into the true light of God and see the deceptions of Satan.
Spreading the gospel is a method of spreading tthe light to every place covered by darkness and also lighting up the world with the word
Until the world hears the gospel (the word) and accept it, they cannot know light or see God’s glory.
This is why he tells us in CCC HYMN 904
BEHOLD the path of truth I have made for thee
Behold the path of truth I have made for thee
Oh lift ye the cross, oh lift ye the cross
Kindle ye the light amidst the world’s darkness, so the world may know that I am the glorious King. Amen.
G. His presence
Moses was in encounter with God and the shining light and glory of God was over his face.
God’s presence has an illuminating impact in our lives.
All the disciples dwelt with Jesus (the light) and the light kindled in them and through them to the world.
If we must be the light of the world, we mustn’t joke with divine presence.
