Can you tell me the mystery behind the naming ceremony we observe in ccc as regards the candles used
The candle stand for ccc naming ceremony is circular and placed inside a spherical basin with water. The carrier of this goes ahead of the carrier of the baby as we process into the church.
Meaning: the basin represents the earth and the water inside, the water in the deep of the earth. The candles represent the spirit of God which moved over the surface of the earth. The lightened candles represent the light which God invited. See the verses below…
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness wasupon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
2Pe 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of thewater and in the water:
Note also the 7 fruits in the container placed in front.
This ceremony reveals the works of creation, telling us that man himself was created by the word (water) and naturally and perfectly blessed (the 7 fruits) by God. The baby being named has natural potentials and gifts (7 fruits) to present to the world. These fruits are sweet like salt, sugar and honey . This is why we blessed the child monetarily and pick fruits.
The book of Deuteronomy 28 often recited during the naming is message to the parents to teach the child in God’s way so that his giftings will materialize as he/she grows…
